President Bush in Red Country

I'm curious as to current opinions from local folks who voted for President Bush twice. So how is he doing now?

I truly did not like Gore and had no qualms about voting for W in 2000. I actually could have gone either way with Kerry, and while I ultimately did vote for Bush, I feel he has been horrible during the second term. Now I realize a lot of that has to do with being a lame duck, most two-termers struggle during the second term.

Not that Kerry would have done much better. In fact, I've reached a point where I don't think anyone is going to make a difference. The Federal government is so bloated and has become so involved with everything that I believe the damage is irreparable.

When the Democrats were in power, the Republicans argued that they would be the ones to stop the bleeding. Well, they've got the House, the Senate, the White House, and the Supreme Court, and the bleeding sure hasn't stopped.

And none of the early candidates from either party seems overly promising.

except in thinking about the comparison it would seem Carter's biggest flaw was in his reluctance to use force (no matter what) and his tendencies to give way too much. I think this weakened the US image abroad. Ronald Reagan was able to repair that image by flexing a little muscle and having a more aggressive foreign policy. But W seems to have declared war on common sense, going out of his way to alienate friend and foe alike. There isn't one corner of the globe where he hasn't inspired wrath and anti-Americanism. I fear it will be a lot harder to fix the damage done by W than it was to fix from Carter. I agree 100% on the invasion of Afghanistan, but Iraq has turned into nothing but a blood bath and an international spectacle. One that has probably done more to damage US interests and cause internal division (within the US) than VietNam even did.

Is there a chance we could see, the 1st Woman and Black president next time up??? and is there a chance there could be Two woman fighting for the Presidency or is Hil Clinton a non starter???

I don't think the American people would elect a President from either category at this point in time. A major party would only have one as a candidate if they had already realized that they were not going to win (i.e. against a sitting popular President going for a second term) and they wanted to make a statement. That will not be the case in the upcoming election. You will see minority and women candidates in the "not a snowball in hell chance" parties.

I haven't seen anything official, but I get the feeling that she is well regarded by all sides.

What might really have an effect on the election is the whole Valerie Plame CIA outing thing. Bush allegedly authorized Cheney to allegedly authorize Libby to release certain information, but no one knows what that information is.

I'm going to put on my Carnac the Magnificent hat and say that by the time the election comes, Cheney will have resigned and been pardoned by the President for any crimes connected with the Valerie Plame incident, and Condoleeza will have be appointed as acting Vice President. She will then be a solid Vice Presidential candidate for whatever white male the Republicans decide to endorse for President.
